TitleRuby Ginner press cuttings 1921-1931
Date1921-1931
Extent1 green and red thick scrapbook
DescriptionNewspaper cuttings and reviews relating to performances featuring Ruby Ginner, Irene Mawer, and the Ginner-Mawer Company. Also contains some programmes, photographs and leaflets for the performances, as well as articles written by Ginner or Mawer on Greek Dance and Mime.

This was a busy period for Ginner, Mawer and their Company and the contents of the scrapbook demonstrate this. For example one article discusses the founding of the Association of Teachers of the Revived Greek Dance (ATRGD) and there is evidence of the newly formed links with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), (the Greek Dance Branch of ISTD was formed in 1924). There are articles from the newly established (1924) Greek Dance journal 'The Link' and some regarding the Greek Festival of Drama, Folk Song and Dance in Athens in which the Ginner-Mawer dancers performed. There is also evidence of the many lecture-demonstrations given by Ginner and Mawer, and of performances featuring them and the Ginner-Mawer dancers, also the Bobblies (the name given to the very young members of the School) and The Studio Players - the company which was run by the students themselves. Programmes are evidence of a diverse range of performance spaces and events such as a Cricket Club, the Shakespeare Festival, the New Scala Theatre and Hyde Park. And articles mentioning Greek Dance from South African and Australian press are further evidence of the growing popularity of the dance form.
