As mentioned in BB/N/6 the Ginner-Mawer Company appeared on BBC television in 1936 - evidence of which is here in this scrapbook in the form of an excerpt from the Radio Times. (It was a live showing as television could not be recorded until 1947.) This appearance is particularly impressive as it was only on the 2nd November 1936 that the worlds' first regular high-definition television service was established from Alexandra Palace. It was Marie Rambert’s company that was the first ballet company to be televised in high definition on the 11th November of that year; this shows how highly acclaimed the Ginner-Mawer dancers were. The continued far-reaching influence of the dance form is demonstrated by the formation in 1937 of the South African Branch of the Greek Dance Association (known as such since 1936).
In 1939 the Ginner-Mawer School was evacuated from London to Boscastle and unfortunately the time after this date is a rather undocumented period of the Schools' and of Ginners' and Mawers' lives.
