DescriptionOrganised by Susan Crow and Jennifer Jackson, the Ballet into the Twenty First Century choreographic course, Contemporary Narratives, was for graduating ballet students from professional schools. The course took place 1-4 August 1999 at the Royal Festival Hall (London), as part of Blitz '99. This file contains correspondence with the faculty; letters to prospective speakers; correspondence with guest speakers, their biographies, their invoices. The faculty for the course were Ian Spink, Toby Jones, Susan Crow and Jennifer Jackson. Sessions open to the public were:
o a workshop for adult non-professionals, 'Expression in Ballet', led by Patrick Wood (4 August);
o a guided viewing, 'Narrative Ballets', with Alastair Macaulay, Irek Mukhamedov and Lynn Seymour (1 August);
o a guided viewing, 'Narratives without Words', with Bridget Crowley of the National Gallery and Robert Adlington, a lecturer in music at Sussex University (2 August);
o an interview and discussion panel, 'Making Scenes', with choreographer Kim Brandstrup and Tim Supple of the Young Vic (3 August);
o a round table and debate hosted by BIG Discussion Forum, 'New Audiences for New Work', with Janet Smith, Jodie Myers of RFH, Anne Torreggiani of London International Festival of Theatre, Irina Pyzniuk of English National Ballet, Allen Robertson of Time Out, and Bruce Marriott of ballet.co (4 August).
