DescriptionMaking Work was a mentored composition residency devised by Ballet Independents' Group and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra's education department. The course involved four young choreographers drawn from participants in previous Ballet into the Twenty First Century choreographic courses, four young composers from the Birmingham Conservatoire, graduate designers drawn from the finalists of the 1999 Linbury Prize for Stage Design, and young dancers and musicians. Introductory workshops for the chorographers and composers were held 19, 22, 23 February 2000; the week's residency began 15 April and culminated in performances on 22 April 2000 at the CBSO Centre, Birmingham. This file contains correspondence with CBSO and DanceXchange; correspondence with choreographers David Bintley and David Massingham, who gave feedback, correspondence with mentors Judith Weir (music) and Pamela Howard (design), and with lighting designer Nick Royle; publicity; planning notes; draft budgets and schedules; theatre programme for the performances.
