DescriptionRehearsals of reconstructions done by Bettina Vernon and Evelyn Ippen for the study day 'Viennese School of Free Expressive Dance: Grete Wiesenthal and Gertrud Bodenwieser', held at the Institut Francais, London, on 24 April 1993. The study day presented Wiesenthal's Wein, Weib und Gesang (Wine Women and Song); two Bodenwieser dances, Mermaid and Sphinx; and two piano solos of music by Johann Strauss (Tritsch-Tratsch Polka and Tales from the Vienna Woods). Marieluise Jaska of the Vienna State Opera Ballet performs the dances; the pianist is Dr Leslie Moorhouse. The video proceeds in the following order: 1) rehearsal of Wein, Weib und Gesang (no sound); piano solo (no sound); Sphinx rehearsal (no sound); piano solo (no sound); Mermaid rehearsal (no sound); Sphinx rehearsal with date on screen (faint sound); Wein, Weib und Gesang rehearsal. 2) Tritsch-Tratsch Polka rehearsal; Sphinx rehearsal; Tales from the Vienna Woods rehearsal; Mermaid rehearsal; Sphinx rehearsal; Wien, Weib und Gesang rehearsal.
