Description | 10.5x13 cm unframed sepia photograph of painting of a woman standing in a dark, wood-panelled room [at the far right of the painting] with two small boys in front of her: the one on the left carries a large [umbrella?], while the other has a scarf wound round his neck. The back is captioned in Shepard's handwriting: "'Followers' Painted in 1904 by EHS. and sold for £100 to Durban Art Gallery (Pie and I married on the proceeds)" |
Administrative History | Shepard worked on this painting in the chapel of Morden College (which he used for the background) during 1903-1904 and exhibited it at the 1904 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. |

Physical Description | The photograph is old and damaged: it is heavily creased and cracking, there is discolouration at the right edge, and it appears that the image is flaking off toward the centre. |
Custodial History | Frank Dicksee bought the original painting on behalf of the Durban Art Gallery, Durban, South Africa, but it has subsequently been lost. |
