DescriptionJonas Hanway was a traveller, a governor of the Foundling Hospital, the founder of the Magdalen Hospital [a charitable institution for the aid and reform of "fallen women"], and the first man in London to habitually carry an umbrella. Annotations and/or printers' instructions [partly obscured by mount] in unknown handwriting in the margins: one [possibly in Shepard's] gives the date.
