Description16x24 cm reproduction of an ink and watercolour image used as the cover for the 1965 Metheun edition of NOW WE ARE SIX. At the top, a boy fishes on the left [from "Down by the Pond"], at centre stands Lord Willoughby [from "King Hilary and the Beggarman"], and at right is King John with a red rubber ball [from "King John's Christmas"]Underneath a green box containing a hen [left, from "The Little Black Hen"], a beetle [right, from "Forgiven"], and the title, a sailor sits with a tortoise on a desert island with a ship in the background [from "The Old Sailor"]. There are pencilled notes at the far right of the image, scribbled out with blue pencil, but these have been cropped. Shepard signed the work at bottom left.
