DescriptionOutside view of the construction of university buildings below Guildford Catherdral. The view looks out to the muddy land inclining up towards the cathedral. The photographer's viewpoint is high up, looking down on some rows of white, wooden, temporary huts/ cabins. There are three parallel lines of these, one line separated by a road from the other two, and a couple of freestanding huts after a path on the right of the nearest row of huts. Many piles of different building materials e.g. bricks and wooden planks are dotted around the site, as well as piles of scaffolding rods/ poles. Across the road from the freestanding huts near the photographer is a small unit of three cubicles with doors and a half wall just in front of these. These cubicles and the rows of huts have steps leading up to them. Power cable posts are dotted between the huts. The university buildings under construction are at differing stages of completion - the largest, on the right hand side, looks to have its outer structure complete, up to the roof. This building also has windows in. The other buildings (two on the immediate left of it, one in the right hand corner of the photograph and another quite far off to the left) are not as far along. All these university buildings have scaffolding around them. A second muddy road/ track cuts through the photo on the left at roughly a 40° angle to the first road near the huts. This second road leads behind the double row of huts, past some contruction equipment and tanks/ containers on stilts/ scaffolding and a small minibus/ van (on the right) and a small crane (on the left). It leads to an open space where the lower section of another new building has been laid down in small sections (taking a rectangular shape as a whole). A low brick wall surrounds the sections. A taller crane stands near the furthest building with its arm pointed in towards the low bricked rectangular sub-sectioned building. On the right behind the buildings is an open grassy space and on the left behind them, and on higher ground, is Guildford Cathedral. There is also a row of trees running between the cathedral and the university land, with another, shorter row coming out perpendicular to it which stops near the level of the larger crane. The land under this shorter row of trees is raised but after the tree row ends, the land slopes downward a short wooden fence. On the right of the cathedral is a fair sized dark wooden hut with two cars parked by it. In the distance, over the hill from the cathedral and small hut, a mixture of open fields and trees can be seen, though it is misty/ foggy.
