ActivityThe school and company of Ruth St Denis and Ted Shawn; founded in 1915 in Los Angeles teaching many forms of dance includingoriental, primitive and German modern dance; many early modern dance pioneers were taught at Denishawn including Graham, Humphrey, Shurr, Weidman, and Cole, and its musical director was Horst; dancers from the school, performing with its founders, formed Denishawn company which toured widely until 1931 when the couple separated and disbanded both it and the school.
