| Activity | Dancer, choreographer, artistic director. Trained with Kurt Jooss at his Folkwang School, Essen and Antony Tudor at the Juilliard School, New York; returning to Europe she danced with the Folkwang Ballet and then succeeded Jooss as its director; developed the Wuppertal Dance Theatre with Rolf Borzik. Her work has featured on film in Federico Fellini's E la nave va (And The Ship Sails on) in 1983; in Pedro Almodovar's hable con ella (Talk to Her) in 2002 and in 1990 Bausch herself directed a dance film, Die Klage der Kaiserin (The Complaint of an Empress). Honours awarded include the Laurence Olivier Award in London, 2006; the Kyoto Prize in Japan, 2007; and the German Goethe Prize in Frankfurt am Main in 2008 |
