| Description | A historic dance with music by Destouches and Lully 1693. The dance first appears in a programme from 1911 in Miss Nellie Chaplin's Revivals of Ancient Dances and Music at the Gaiety Theatre, Manchester. It is sometimes described as a Spanish Arabian dance, or an ancient dance. Atkinson later performed the dance herself and it first appears in the Natural Movement programmes in 1913 with the last performance in 1935.
The costume was originally in a box with the label Sarabande and Beauty. There are no photographs for the Sarabande costume but there is a design in the Natural Movement costume design book (the design is labelled Saraband). |
