About the Catalogue

This online catalogue allows you to search for information about the archives held at the University of Surrey, which include collections that document:

  • dance companies e.g. Extemporary Dance Theatre (1975-1991)

  • the artist, writer and illustrator Ernest Howard Shepard MC, OBE (1879-1976)
  • the University of Surrey from its original foundation as Battersea Polytechnic in 1891 to current day

The catalogue lists over 54,000 items dating from the late 17th century but predominantly representing the mid-19th century to the present day and including personal papers, photographs, scrapbooks, art work, maps, periodicals, audio-visual items, books, costumes, set designs and ephemera. The catalogue includes both collection level descriptions about the majority of our archives and detailed catalogues of many individual collections.

New catalogues are added on a regular basis to this online catalogue, however information about some of our collections is not yet available here. Therefore further information on the many collections we hold can be discovered on our website
