Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sort the records in the 'search results' hitlist?

By default, records in a hitlist are presented in Reference Number (RefNo) order. However, you can also sort the records by Title, Description or by Date by clicking on the appropriate column heading above the displayed records.

How can I find out more information about an entry displayed in the 'search results' hitlist?

By clicking anywhere on the text of a particular entry, the full description and all other relevant information will be displayed. Click on the RefNo if you then want to see the record in its hierarchical context (i.e. how it relates to other records in the collection) and to see other records in the same collection

How do I get to see documents I find in the catalogue?

Documents in the catalogue can be accessed in the archives and special collections research room in the Library of the University of Surrey, Guildford. We are open to researchers by appointment only. Please contact us to make a research appointment. It is helpful to provide a list of the reference numbers of the records you would like to consult.

Can I obtain a copy of documents I find in the catalogue?

Copying services are provided to our researchers subject to the restrictions of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and subsidiary legislation. Please see the relevant section of our website for more information.

Does the catalogue hold details of all the archive collections?

No - the Archive has a number of un-catalogued collections still awaiting processing, therefore if you cannot find what you are looking for please contact us
