History | Florence Eleanor Chaplin was born on 18 June 1876. She was studying at the Royal Academy Schools when she met Ernest Howard Shepard. At this time she was commonly known as Eleanor, but she was soon given the nickname 'Pie'. Florence and Shepard became engaged in 1903 and married in 1904. E H Shepard also called her 'Mont' or 'Monty'
Florence continued painting and in March 1919 she submitted a watercolour for the Royal Acadamy Exhibition.
Florence suffered from asthma and a nasal operation was arranged to alleviate the problem. Florence Eleanor Shepard died under anaesthetic on 27 September 1927. Her funeral at Shamley Green took place on the 1 October 1927. |
