Description | A signed ink illustration on Whatman drawing board from page 172 of Grahame, K (1931) 'The Wind in the Willows.' London: Methuen. It is annotated for publication, and includes a pencil quotation from Chapter 7 of 'The Wind in the Willows': "Some great animal has been here". There is an inscription on reverse by E H Shepard: 'Original drawing Property of Ernest H Shepard Long Meadow Longdown Guildford. Surrey.' |

Physical Description | Portrait orientation. Overthrow window mount cut from 100% cotton museum board in Silver-Grey, hinged at the long edge with linen tape with rounded corners. A ‘well’ was made for the artwork within museum board to accommodate the thickness of the drawing boards within the overthrow mount. The artwork was positioned within the mount and hinged to the backboards using Japanese paper T-hinges. |
