Description | A signed ink illustration on drawing board, from page 275 of Grahame, K (1931) 'The Wind in the Willows.' London: Methuen. It is annotated for publication, and includes a pencil quotation from Chapter 11 of 'The Wind in the Willows': "Bang, a bullet whistled over his head". The annotation incorrectly states that the illustration was for page 267. There is an inscription on reverse by E H Shepard: 'Original drawing. The property of Ernest H Shepard Long Meadow Longdown Guildford. Surrey.' |

Physical Description | Portrait orientation. Overthrow window mount cut from 100% cotton museum board in Silver-Grey, hinged at the long edge with linen tape with rounded corners. A ‘well’ was made for the artwork within museum board to accommodate the thickness of the drawing boards within the overthrow mount. The artwork was positioned within the mount and hinged to the backboards using Japanese paper T-hinges. |
