DescriptionThe Association of Dance and Mime Artists (ADMA) (1976-1985) sought to educate key people within major funding bodies about British New Dance. It pressed for funding of experimental dance companies and for grants to allow choreographers to explore new ideas and create new work that might not reach performance level. A national membership organisation with a steering committee based in London, ADMA played a key role in the increase in funding for small projects and small dance groups, the appointment of the first Dance Officer at the Greater London Arts Association (GLAA) in 1977, and GLAA's granting of dance fellowships in 1978.

The archive is a collection of papers about ADMA's activities gathered by administrator Irene Fawkes, rather than a full record of the organisation's life and work.

Records include minutes of committee meetings, correspondence files, policy statements, membership information; course and conference information; records regarding the Day of Dance 1984; financial records; newsletters and reports.

Archive also includes papers relating to the Institute for Administrators in the Arts and Entertainment Working Party; Equity, National Organisation or Dance and Mime; Small Scale Dance Companies Management Committee; and Greater London Arts Association meetings.
ArrangementAt the time of cataloguing a distinction was made between material relating to the Cycles Dance Company Archive and the ADMA Archive. Before cataloguing, the material was all assumed to relate to ADMA.

Material arranged at time of cataloguing according to the format-based classification scheme which was then in use by the National Resource Centre for Dance.
