DescriptionFile of ephemera relating to Shepard's time at the Royal Academy Schools, including: his acceptance letter; a letter notifying him of his election to the Landseer Scholarship; a dance card for an 1899 dance; a flyer for a play put on in December 1899 by the RA Students' Literary Society, in which Shepard acted; a flyer for the 1902 RAS fancy-dress dance, with a short note in pencil in Shepard's handwriting [unsure to whom it was addressed, probably George Swaish or Florence Chaplin]; and two clippings from an unknown newspaper [possibly THE TIMES], outlining the annual prizewinners for the Royal Academy Schools. The first clipping is labelled "10 Dec 1899" in pencil and the other is undated [but is not 1902, as it does not mention Florence Chaplin's work "The Months"].
Related MaterialSee the sketches of a man and woman [presumably Shepard and Florence Chaplin] on a fragment of a flyer similar to the fancy-dress dances' (EHS/G/ ). The programme and script for another play in which Shepard acted as a student is at EHS/A/12/ . Other references to Florence Chaplin Shepard's student work can be found at EHS/A/17/3.
