Date21 Feb 1916
Extent2 papers
DescriptionWritten at Red Cottage [Shamley Green, Guildford]. Letter postmarked 21 February 1916 and addressed to E H Shepard; sent care of Mrs. Leatham [sp.?], 1 Royal Terrace, Weymouth, Dorset.
Paper headed with "Sunday" [Handwritten].
Florence writes that she had a card from Gossie [sp.?] yesterday, and that she herself would not be able to get away until "Thursday at the earliest". Florence writes that she went up "with Elsie to the woods to stand for a few moments", and that she had difficulty in getting up the hill, but was anxious to do it. Florence writes that when she arrived home she "left the kiddies to play", but that shortly after Phil came towards her whilst "nearly" crying. She writes that Phil informed that "Mollie" [sp.?] had burnt her face; Florence notes that the burn occurred because a stone hot water bottle, which had been put in the oven to keep warm, exploded as the "water had boiled inside and had no way of escape". Florence writes that the Dr. said that the lady would not have a disfigurement as a result of the burn. Florence asks that E H Shepard send her "another pound". Florence writes that she did not get a letter [from E H Shepard] "today or yesterday".
[Continued on another page: Monday morning]
Florence writes that she got two letters from Kitts [sp.?], and notes that she liked the photos. Florence also writes that the Kay's cottage sounds "jolly".
