Letter postmarked 5 May 1916 and addressed to E H Shepard at 105th Siege Battery, Dolphin Inn, Lydd, Kent.
Postmark indicates that the letter was processed at Shamley Green [Guildford].
Florence writes that she had begun to think that E H Shepard would not be going yet, and notes down her upset that he is. Florence writes that E H Shepard must have had a "dreadful time...with those guns and things". Florence writes that it'll be "rather thrilling" for E H Shepard to go to Paris, and wishes that she could accompany him. Florence writes that she would like to get him a life jacket, and that she "will just hate him crossing". Florence asks whether E H Shepard will "have to have a trench coat". Florence writes that Turie [Trix?] [sp.?] has got Graham Shepard a suit, and asks that E H Shepard send a cheque to cover the cost. Florence writes that she has "just enough for this week", and that she is pleased as she has paid all the bills. Florence mentions Punch. Florence writes that she has enclosed a letter from "Baba" [Graham Shepard], and that she meant to enclose a letter from "Pip" [Pip Gossage] too. Florence writes that Peter [Helen Tuckett] is getting better in "leaps and bounds". Florence writes that she feels "horrid" about E H Shepard going, but tells him to not take any notice. Florence signs off with the nicknames "Mont" and "Puss" [Mary Shepard?].
