Written at Red Cottage [Shamley Green, Guildford]. Letter postmarked 19 May 1916 and addressed to E H Shepard at 105th Siege Battery, R.G.A. British Expeditionary Force, France.
Paper headed with "Thursday evening" [Handwritten].
Florence writes that she is glad that she has "an address to write to again". Florence writes that she was busy this morning, and that she "had a table underneath the chestnut tree", on which to write her letters. Florence writes that she wrote to "Ethel [Ethel Shepard] and the Aunts", to tell them that E H Shepard is in France. Florence writes that she will be "very glad" when she hears form E H Shepard. Florence also writes that if "anything nasty had happened" then she might have seen it in the paper. Florence writes that she had people over for tea in the garden, and that it was a "perfect day". Florence writes that she telephoned to "Reek's" about the buttons; she writes that if she cannot get them there, she will then send to Selfridge's. Florence notes that E H Shepard should not "go near any Germans until your [his] buttons are changed". Florence writes that she has cut the grass in the garden. Florence writes that she has had her letters "tucked inside my stays", and asks whether E H Shepard likes the scent sachet that she has sent. Florence signs off with the extended nickname "Mont-in-England".
