Written at Red Cottage [Shamley Green, Guildford]. Envelope postmarked 16 June 1916 and addressed to E H Shepard at 105 Siege Battery, R.G.A. British Expeditionary Force, France.
Envelope size does not match folds on letter; it is possible that we are missing/never received a letter dated 16/6/1916, but it may be that this envelope relates to this.
Paper headed with "Red Cottage, 17th June" [Handwritten].
Florence writes that she has had breakfast in bed. She writes that she has received E H Shepard's letter. Florence writes that she can't help feeling "rather worried"; Florence asks E H Shepard to be "just as careful as you can". Florence writes that she has informed "Mrs [sp.?] Tapp" that she won't be able to teach lessons after all; Florence writes that she feels "an awful fool to be so unreliable". Florence writes that her sight is a pain to her, and that her glasses are not providing her with much assistance. Florence writes that the letter that she received from E H Shepard was dated 11th/12th June; Florence notes that she suspects that this was because E H Shepard was "moving". Florence writes that she is planning to send a parcel to E H Shepard. She also writes that she would like to know "how we stand at the bank" [on this page Florence Shepard has drawn out the accounts. Florence writes that she has written "a dull morning letter". Florence signs off with affection.
