DescriptionSigned "Maria" [i.e. Mary Shepard] in childish printing in top left of recto, first paper; includes extremely rough pencil sketch of a rosebush; enclosed with EHS/C/13/16/21.
Envelope postmarked 21 June 1916 and addressed to E H Shepard at 105 Siege Battery, R.G.A. British Expeditionary Force, France.
Paper headed with "Tuesday morning, 20th June" [Handwritten].
Florence writes that she doesn't like E H Shepard "getting so wet and not changing"; she notes that they should purchase a trench coat for him.
Florence thanks E H Shepard for writing; she notes that "it is nice to know exactly what it's like". Florence writes that this depth of information helps her to "imagine you a bit".
Florence writes that she visited "Pip" [Pip Gossage] and "Mel"; she notes that one of these ladies had to retire to bed, to rest. Florence writes that "exactly the same thing has happened…to me when I was expecting the babes"; Florence writes that she shared her experience and so left the lady "much more cheery".
Florence writes that she is pleased that E H Shepard has a gramophone. She also writes that she will send "a fruit salad" in the next parcel.
Florence writes that Johnny [sp.?] Gossage has taken a house in Cornwall.
Florence asks E H Shepard how he manages with his "washing"; she asks whether he would like to send some home to be "washed + [and] mended".
Florence writes that she is sitting underneath the chestnut tree to write. Florence describes the garden in detail. Florence signs off with the nickname "Mont".
Florence writes that E H Shepard should inform her if there is anything "particular that you'd like in the next parcel".
