| Description | Frank Dicksee, PRA, KCVO [27 November 1853 – 17 October 1928] was a painter and illustrator noted for his historical scenes; his work is Pre-Raphealite in style, though he was not part of that movement. He was long-standing friend of Harriet Jessie Lee Shepard's family, and an early mentor to E.H. Shepard. In 1891 he was elected to the Royal Academy, became its president in 1924, and was knighted in 1925. In 1927 King George V named him a Knight of the Royal Victorian Order. Date from postmark |
