TitleLetter to E H Shepard from A A Milne about other illustrators
Date24 December 1926
Extent3 papers
DescriptionA A Milne tells E H Shepard that he has enclosed a new poem for the 'Royal'. He tells Shepard that there will be another 8 or 10 sketches to draw and must be sent to Methuen by June.

Milne makes reference to complaints from America regarding an illustration for a poem that was not illustrated by Shepard, but imitates Shepard's drawings. He says that he is very glad Shepard will be drawing the illustrations for the book.

Milne tells Shepard that so many children love Piglet and think of him as Shepard has drawn him. He says that there might have been a riot if Shepard had drawn him as 'an ordinary fat pig'. He says that Dowd is illustrating a new 'Pooh' story for the Evening News, and Milne has sent him Shepard's drawings of Eeyore and Piglet in the hope that he can draw the characters like Shepard has, but not imitating Shepard too much.

Milne hopes that Shepard is not upset that other illustrators have been commissioned by newspapers. He says that they are both geniuses and sometimes a newspaper can only afford to pay for one genius. He also says that many people have thought that he must have written poems in 'Punch', because they are illustrated by Shepard.
