Date6 Mar 1914
Extent1 paper
DescriptionWritten on "41 Blackheath Park, S.E." headed paper. EHS describes a dance performance he saw in London, saying that the more he thinks of it "the more wonderful it all seems". He wants to describe the costumes but can't "humbly do so in a letter". He describes the "quaint Bakst pictures of Equestriennes + Clowns" and a full description of the set. EHS says that Cyril was lucky as he and Mrs Croxton know the manager and so they had supper with him in his room, champagne and cigars. He says the manager had told Cyril that a party of Americans had come to him and offered him 20 guineas a ticket and that there were 4000 people there [at the performance] and 5000 more that wanted to.
EHS went to The Connor's yesterday and they visited grosvenor . He describes in detail "Phillpott's portrait of a little white-faced, red-lipped lady" and mentions Connard's "two beautys and a lovely Spanish study by Kelly". He describes a "portrait of Nicholson" by Augustus John as "Splendid and beautifully drawn". He also mentions that he saw portraits by "Speed and Harris Brown".
EHS mentions that he and Cyril dozed off when he got home until Ethel got in from glean [sp?]. He has asked Arthur down next week-end . He asks FCS to give Fuss and Foly lots of love and thanks and say that he wishes he were there.
