DescriptionE H Shepard writes that Sly has gone back to his battery and a new fellow has come instead named Stevenson. Serp has sent him some cigarettes and also some for the men. Shepard says that he is going to try and get the battery barber up there as his hair needs cutting badly, and some of the men look as if they want it to. Shepard writes that his servant, Clarke, is on leave and he now has a youngster named Mckinnon

Shepard praises 'clever, clever, celever little puss' for managing so well about the sugar, tea and the fruit, but asks her not to go carting manure about
