TitleLetter from E H Shepard to Florence Eleanor Shepard
Date5 April 1918
Extent2 papers, 1 envelope
DescriptionE H Shepard writes whilst he is up among the cloud and snow on the mountains. He writes that they all now have alpenstocks and they have been given some sheepskin lined sleeping bags and lined boots, but they are keeping most of those for the men who have to be up at nights. Shepard says that it is raining instead of snowing which is a sign that winter is disappearing. They are currently living in little wooden huts called 'Alpine huts', and he is currently sharing a hut with the Major. Shepard writes that the Captain of the battery they travelled with is being sent to England on a course so they celebrated the occasion with '2 bottles of Asti and several of port' but 'they didn't mix well through and I woke up with a head in the morning'

Shepard writes that he is pleased with what Jack said about the portrait and that the likeness must be good if Norah and the others think so. Shepard writes that he hopes that the portrait will get to the Royal Academy alright.

He also notes that he will soon have to purchase some new clothes and hopes that Florence does not think that he is being too extravagant. He is glad to heard about the new chicken run and says that the hens will probably lay no end of eggs now

Shepard writes that they have had much better news from Frances and 'things seem to be going on alright there'
