Each page of the notebook is numbered in the top right corner. 2 of the loose pages are partial drafts of BETSY AND JOE written in pencil; 1 is a scrap of paper with notes on the narrative; 3 are numbered pages of the draft written in black biro [which probably came loose from the notebook]; and the final loose page is a short biographical essay on Shepard, written in his own handwriting. With the exception of the numbered pages, all the loose pages have been moved to the back of the notebook in the order in which they were found. Phrases and sentences are underlined in red pencil, sometimes with numbered references [probably to cross-reference the illustrations]. |
