Description | Manuscript written in [fading] ink giving an outline of the founding of PUNCH magazine from the perspective of a founder [it is written in the first person]. Most of the pages are numbered at the upper right, and from these numbers it is clear that there are pages missing from the manuscript. Most pages are approximately A4-sized brown paper, but the last sheet is larger and blue. The handwriting is definitely not E. H. Shepard's, and appears to be Victorian; the date "1840" appears in pencil in the upper right. Given its age, it may have been written by Ebenezer Landells, Florence Chaplin Shepard's grandfather. |
