Date1968-1991
Extent0.27 linear metres (3 boxes)
DescriptionInformal newsletters usually issued double sided on single sheets at weekly or more frequent intervals by the Public Relations Office. The content contained items of general interest to all members of staff such as the use of University facilities and items concerning staff retirements and new appointments. It also included information relating to the University's public relations concerns with coverage of activities arranged by departments or individuals and University events in general.
Administrative HistoryThe Newsletter was first produced in 1968 at a time when the University was in the process of transferring from Battersea to its new site at Guildford. The original intention was for it to act as a means of communication between the different parts of the University on its two sites.
It appeared at least once a week, with general practice being to assemble it on Monday, write on Tuesday and circulate on Wednesday. [Roy Douglas, p121]
The final issue appeared on 15 Jan 1991 and it was shortly afterwards replaced by 'Surrey Matters' magazine which incorporated both the 'Newsletter,' and the University's official publication, the 'Gazette.' (PN/011).
