HistoryMotus Humanus, a non-profit corporation, was founded in 1991 by Charlotte Honda, Carol-Lynne Moore, and Kauro Yamamoto to increase awareness of movement theory and the work of Rudolf Laban and his successors. This was achieved through the organisation of regular seminars and conferences for movement professionals, the production of a quarterly newsletter, and the provision of grants for research projects.

The corporation also donated $150 towards the founding of the Warren Lamb Trust and continuing work in the development of Movement Pattern Analysis.

Although the corporation faced some friction with the American equivalent of the Laban Guild, the LABAN/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies, due to the similarity of their mission, they regularly provided articles for the UK's Laban Guild Magazine.

The corporation also had a strong connection with Laban protégé, Warren Lamb, who attended and spoke at several Motus Humanus events before his death in 2014. Lamb was granted fellowship of the organisation together with other eminent movement professionals including Ann Hutchinson Guest, Vera Maletic, and Dr Geraldine Stephenson.

Motus Humanus also awarded Lamb a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995. The same award was given to Ann Hutchinson Guest in 1997, and posthumously to Irmgard Bartenieff in 1999. Hutchinson Guest also presented the award to Geraldine Stephenson in 2001.

The group was dissolved in 2017, following the retirement of several of the original board members.

A leaflet for the organisation describes it thus: 'Motus Humanus is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt professional organisation based in Denver, Colorado. It supports inquiry into human movement by establishing standards of professional practice, improving business conditions for movement specialists, and fostering public awareness of movement analysis as an emerging profession.'
