Administrative History | The City of London Parochial Charities Act gave the Charity Commissioners authority to appropriate and reuse funds which were held by charities managed by the various Church of England parish vestries within the City of London. These charities had been set up for the benefit of the poorer inhabitants of the City. However, by the late 19th century the City of London was predominantly commercial rather than residential and therefore there were fewer recipients. The new area of benefit was the City of London and the Metropolitan Police District of London. |
