Description | Photographs of Battersea Polytechnic and Battersea College of Technology buildings, staff, students and academic departments and facilities, and social and academic events. Includes some imageselating to the Battersea sites after the College became a University in 1966.
The bulk of the photographs appear to have been taken by professional photographers and were probably commissioned by Battersea Polytechnic/College of Technology or are press photographs. It appears that sets of photographs were taken in 1938 and 1963, and there may have been a survey of the main building plaques and architectural features, possibly as a record in anticipation of the relocation in the 1960s.
Many of the photographs have captions handwritten on the reverse and these have been used to identify people, places and events.
Battersea Polytechnic was renamed Battersea College of Technology in 1957, after it became a College of Advanced Technology in 1956. Where possible, the correct contemporary name has been used in the catalogue. |
Arrangement | Photographs have been arranged according to Academic Buildings, Academic Departments, halls of residence, staff, students and alumni, social and sporting events, academic events and artefacts |
Copyright | Photographer and copyright ownership of the majority of the photographs is unknown. |
