Rich was Chairman of the Governing Body during the period when Battersea was investigating becoming a University and baceme the first Chair of the University of Surrey Council.
COMMEMORATIONS AND HONOURS
University of Surrey student accommodation, the Rich Building, part of the Battersea Court complex on the Stag Hill campus in Guildford, was named after him.
Rich Fund: this was founded by Sidney Rich and paid for the residents of Rich House to celebrate his birthday each year. The first party was held in 1970 [Archive ref: P2/245/4/39; P2/245/4/56]. Research indicates that the fund probably wound down in the 1980s when the interest on the capital was no longer sufficient to cover costs.
