Description | The company was formed in in 1976, with the aid of a grant from the Yorkshire Arts Association, after Janet Smith's successful solo debut. The company undertook extensive national and international tours during its career, including visits to Europe and the Far East, and steadily gaining a reputation for popularity and accessibility. It was disbanded in either 1988 or 1990.

The archive also includes artwork for publicity and posters, and the Janet Smith and Dancers newsletter; photographs of works, staff and members of the company, workshops and residencies; programmes and posters for national and international tours; and videos of workshops.
