Description | Dresses for the Landler costume. The dresses have black velvet bodices (like the top of a pinafore) with criss-cross ties down the front (this is thick thread), the skirts are made from either gingham or madras check fabric and are attached to the bodices; they are slightly gathered and there is a hook and eye fastening at the top (which would have been hidden by the apron worn see NM/S/26/3). The skirt length is approximately just below the knee. Some of the skirts have been taken up and have large hems.
The dresses have handwritten numbers on the lining of the bodices and are also labelled Madge Atkinson. One of the dresses has the label London College.
The colours are: All black (or dark navy) velvet bodices with different coloured checked or gingham skirts with varied patterns and different coloured strings/threads in the bodices.
