Administrative HistoryUnder its terms of reference:
1. the Residences Committee was a committee of the Academic Board/Senate;
2. it was responsible for formulating all policy affecting admission, tenancy, student discipline, organisation and administration in relation to Student Residential Accomodation. The term Student Residential Accomodation included Halls of Residence, Hostels, and lodgings accepted by the Lodgings Officer.
3.the Committee was also responsible for formulating policy in relation to all matters pertaining to future student accomodation, included accepted lodgings, at Guildford.

The Committee should be composed of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Dean of Students, the Principal's Warden from each Hall of Residence/Hostel, a woman member of staff appointed by the Vice-Chancellor, President of the Students' Union, two undergraduate members (one of whom should be a woman), one postgraduate member, each of whom should be appointed by the Students' Union Council, The Secretary.

In 1980 the Committee's structure and terms of reference were revised and it was renamed the Student Accommodation Committee.
