| Arrangement | The majority of the dissertations are held as UNIS/B. Dissertations submitted between 1984 and 1994 have not had an arrangement imposed. Dissertations submitted 1995 to 2008 are arranged according to year of submission and then alphabetically by author's surname within that. DVDs and videos which accompany these disserations are held separately and catalogued as UNIS/D and UNIS/J.
Dissertations, together with accompanying DVDs, submitted in 2005 and 2006 are catalogued separately as UNIS/1 and UNIS/2 respectively. |
| Custodial History | Collection of MA Dissertations relating to dance studies at the University of Surrey given by the authors or transferred by the Library and the Dance Department.
Between 1984 and 1986 20 dissertations were given to the National Resource Centre for Dance by the authors, in accordance with the requirements of the course. These were originally catalogued as XZB and were re-catalogued as UNIS/B when the UNIS collection was created.
In 2003, around 90 dissertations submitted between 1987and 1994 were transferred to the National Resource Centre for Dance by the University Library. This was as a result of a change in policy whereby the Library implemented a 9 year retention period for MA dissertations. The dissertations were offered to the relevant academic departments and the Department of Dance Studies asked the National Resource Centre for Dance to take the dance dissertations into the archive for permanent preservation.
This annual transfer of dissertations took place until 2011 when the Library transferred dissertations submitted between 2002 and 2007.
From 2007 the Library only retained distinction level Masters dissertations and therefore non-distinction dance dissertations were obtained directly from the academic department.
In 2018 the Library reviewed its holdings of MA dissertations submitted between 2007 and 2010 and transferred two dance MA dissertations to the archive. No dance dissertations were identified from 2008, 2009 or 2010.
In addition, some MA students have also given copies of their dissertations directly to the National Resource Centre for Dance. |
