Description | Photo taken looking out over a building under construction, behind which is Senate House (looks almost complete). In the foreground is a stretch of land where building foundations have been set out - immediately in front of the photographer is a brick chimney like structure and on the left piles of rubble, wooden posts and scaffolding poles. A wall separates the ground where the chimney structure is from the building foundations - part of the wall is made from short metal posts and part has longer metal posts with board either side. There are more piles of tubing and scaffolding on the right hand side of the building foundations. Two men are working in a ditch near the edge of these, visible through the short metal fence. On the far side of the foundations is a walkway where two more workers are - one in a white shirt, walking to the left; and one in a black jumper, standing behind a piece of surveying equipment/ a transit on a tripod. A ladder is placed on the uneven ground on the far side of the foundations in the foreground, propped against another building. This other building fills the centre of the photo and is further along in its stage of construction, with its outer pillars supporting some sections of wall which have been added. A tower crane stands inside this area, lowering a pillar extension section onto the top of one of the pillars. Two men are working to guide it in and two other men are stationed around the base of another section just to the left. More site workers are gathered to the back left of this building area. In the background on the right of Senate House, is a field with part of some rugby goal posts showing. Behind this again, rows of houses and trees in Guildford town can be seen. |
