Description | Photo taken from a height, looking out at the construction site below. On the ground in the left of the foreground are stacks of long, thin light coloured planks, behind them further left are many stacks of bricks and on the right of the bricks is a shed. In the foreground on the right of the photo is a large, dark deciduous tree reaching up into the top right hand corner. In the centre of the photo is one of the Surrey Court residential buildings which is two levels high so far with some of the internal wall/ room divisions started and floorboards down. There are many brick piles dotted around inside, some wooden planks propped up against the edge of the scaffolding and around the outside edge there are wooden planks round most of the upper layer of scaffolding, for walking on. Inside this building, a man is sitting on a low wall looking in the direction of a tall stack of bricks. One of the stacks of construction materials in the left hand corner of this building has clear plastic sheeting draped over it and is weighted down by some boards with bricks on top. On the left of this building there is a small boom crane with the boom directed in towards the building and a small cage suspended from the pulley of another crane, above. To the left of the crane, a concrete/ cement silo stands and behind this are three rows of white wooden huts with walkways between and power cable posts/ lines dotted across them. Further behind these rows of huts are the Philip Marchant and Senate House buildings. A road comes out from between the rows of huts and cuts across to the right hand side of the photo, behind which is an open muddy patch of land with two big deciduous trees a short distance apart. In the background, buildings, houses, fields and trees of Guildford town can be seen as well as the faint dark billows of smoke, just to the left of the crane arm. |
