TitleLetters to E H Shepard from [William] Denis and Helen Parry Eden
Date1906-1950
Extent18 letters
DescriptionDenis Eden [he apparently used his middle name exclusively] was a long-term friend of Ernest Shepards's; they were classmates at St. John's Wood Preparatory School [which they both detested] and later at the Royal Academy Schools. Helen Parry Eden was an artist and poet who became Shepard's colleague at PUNCH, where she was a reviewer. Denis was a committed pacifist who was imprisoned in Wormwood Scrubs during World War II; this apparently broke his health and caused his family a great deal of distress.
