Title4 Caryated Dresses
Date1900s
Extent4 adult Dresses
Description'4 long gold and white caryated dresses' as described on the original box, for use in New World Symphony. The dresses are made of silk and are a deep gold/yellow colour at the base fading into white at the top (neck and shoulders). They are styled like a tunic/chiton with a straight neck and a small seam on the shoulders for the arm holes. The fabric is loose across the shoulders and two of the dresses are cut so an excess of fabric drapes from one shoulder to approximately above the waist. These dresses also have a small hem on one side from the underarm down and are not seamed from there to the base and do not have a seam for the other side of the body. The other two dresses do not have side seams at all, they drape from the shoulders and are open at the sides.
