On the left in the foreground there is a small area of muddy ground which is slightly raised with large clumps of hardened soil in. In the centre a walkway has been flattened out, in which a plank of wood sits and on either side of this are raised piles/ ridges of earth. On the left, behind these, more building foundations are visible including a concrete area with wooden planks in it; a ditch with some metal rods sticking out into it from the concrete on the right and a wooden fence on the other side; some long metal beams/ girders; a man with a theodolite/ transit on a tripod; a van/ truck with a small load parked up; and another concreted section contained on three sides by wooden fencing which has some line of rope with small rectangles hanging from it, like bunting. Behind the main construction area in view, is a road which a man is walking along, and behind this again is another section, separated by a fence made of concrete posts and wire. This further section has a car parked in it and leads to a row of white wooden temporary huts/ cabins. Behind these huts is the lake and a large open grassy space. On the far right centre of the photo is a large deciduous tree which rises high above everything else. In the background, buildings, houses, electricity pylons, fields and trees of Guildford town can be seen as well as the faint dark billows of smoke, just left of centre. |
