DescriptionPhoto taken from a height atop scaffolding (scaffolding rails visible just below the photographer, bottom right corner), looking out at the construction site below. Immediately below the scaffolding viewpoint, on the ground are many stacks of bricks and a shed which stands between the building on the left below the scaffolding (Battersea Court) and the one on the right (Surrey Court). The Battersea Court building on the lower left is two levels high so far with some of the internal wall/ room divisions started and floorboards down. There are many brick and wooden plank piles dotted around inside and the scaffolding around the edge has wooden planks round most of the upper part for walking on. A workman is balanced below the upper layer of scaffolding where the wooden flooring ends and is holding on to a bar crossing the main scaffolding framework perpendicularly. There is a roughly triangular shaped open space between the Battersea Court buildings on the left and the Surrey Court ones on the right. Within this space are many building materials and construction vehicles including a boom crane (with RICHARDS [?] WALLINGTON printed on the back) which has the counterweight facing the photographer and the boom extended out slightly to the right (there is an oil drum on the ground on the right of it); a man driving a dumper truck towards a mound of construction material; and a long truck/ van carrying a large load of bricks. There is also a cement/ concrete container/ silo next to another vehicle at the edge of this open space. Just below the open triangular space are three rows of white wooden huts with walkways between and power cable posts/ lines dotted across them. Further behind this and downhill again is Senate House and the Philip Marchant building (roof on but sides incomplete) and on the other side of these one of the academic buildings is visible. On the right hand side of Senate House, another long row of white wooden huts stretches out diagonally, to the top right hand corner of the photo. There is a wide open space to the left behind the academic buildings.
