HistoryKenneth Grahame was born in Edinburgh on 8 March 1859, the third child of Cunningham and Bessie Grahame.

In 1879 Grahame began work at the Bank of England and he rose through the ranks until he retired as Secretary in 1908. In 1899 Grahame married Elspeth Thomson. They had on child, a son named Alastair.

While in his 20s, Grahame began to publish stories in periodicals such as the St James Gazette. Some of these stories where collected and published as 'Pagan Papers' in 1893, and 'The Golden Age' in 1895. These were followed by 'Dream Days' in 1898, which contains the story 'The Reluctant Dragon'. 'The Wind in the Willows' was published in 1908 and was illustrated by E H Shepard.

Graham died in Pangbourne, Berkshire in 1932.
