HistoryJohn Dalby was born in 1929. During his early career as a composer and musician Dalby was involved with the Art of Movement Studio, including staffing for holiday courses in dance and movement [GS/2/3/8] and composing and playing music for the Laban study aids including 'The A Scale for Actors' and 'The Dimensional Scale' [GS/5/5/10-11].

Dalby accompanied Geraldine Stephenson on the piano for her solo dance recitals at the Art of Movement Studio [GS/2/2/39], and they became great friends. Dalby also accompanied Stephenson and Norman Ayrton on their tour of the recital "The Centuries in Dance" and Stephenson for their touring recital "On Choosing a Partner". Stephenson and Dalby also worked in France as they performed their recital of Dance and Mime at the Musée Guimet, Paris [GS/5/3/2].

Dalby also wrote and composed entire scripts and scores, including "The Rose and the Ring"[GS/5/4/7].

In 1993 John Dalby produced an audio cassette to accompany his book 'How to Speak Well in Business' [GS/5/5/6].
